World Indigenous Suicide Conference 2016

Previous Next

Waitaha Kia Piki Te Ora attended this memorable event in Rotorua 1 June to 3rd of June, The world of indigenous people gathered to celebrate and share our whakaaro on Suicide.

The Conference was split in to two arenas with a Rangatahi stage and a Pakeke stage with speakers and activities to suit these arenas.

We were lucky to indulge in great keynote speakers from Te Ururoa Flavell, Sir Mason Durie, Mike King, King Kapisi to our aboriginal brother Joe Williams from across the ditch just to name a few.

We even had our own Zion Tauamiti and Lovey Ratima-Rapson as apart of the speakers as well giving wonderful presentations to allow all an opportunity to see just a spec of what we do here in Waitaha at He Waka Tapu.

Over the 3 days we were so enriched with culture, laughter, tears, sadness, friendships, voices of healing and thoughts of healing that we came back ready to give more back to Waitaha and promote awareness of this taniwha of Suicide.

Thanks to all who put on a great conference cant wait to be apart of the next one over on our brothers and sisters in the aboriginal lands in the next two years.

If you didnt get the opportunity to be apart of this one definitely save up or find funding to get to this as it is totally worth every cent.
